Sending WordPress contact form entries to a Zapier webhook

In Zapier, start a Zap with Webhooks by Zapier → Catch Hook, copy the URL it gives you, and paste it into your form plugin's webhook setting. Each entry is then posted to Zapier as JSON, and the Zap can send it anywhere — Google Sheets, Salesforce, Slack, Microsoft 365.

When a webhook is the right route

Use a webhook for services a form plugin doesn't connect to directly, especially those that need an OAuth app: Google Sheets, Salesforce, Microsoft, Constant Contact, AWeber. Zapier holds those logins, and your form only needs one URL.

Setting it up with Formsafe Pro

  1. In Zapier, create a Zap with the Catch Hook trigger and copy its URL.
  2. In Formsafe Pro — the paid add-on to Formsafe Contact Form — add a webhook connection with that URL and, if you like, a signing secret. The Test button posts {"test": true} to it.
  3. Choose which forms send their entries to the webhook, then send one real entry, so Zapier learns the shape of the data.

Each entry is posted as JSON: the form's name and id, the entry's id, when and from which page it was sent, the email address, and every field with its label — your Zap picks what it needs. With a secret set, each request carries X-Formsafe-Signature: sha256=…, an HMAC-SHA256 of the body made with your secret, so a step in your Zap or your own endpoint can check that the request really came from your site.

What an answer can and can't tell you

An entry is marked sent only when the webhook answers with a 2xx status. Anything else is a failed delivery: Pro keeps the entry and tries it again after 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 2 hours, 12 hours and then daily, for up to 7 days. A refusal such as 401, 403, 404 or 410 marks the connection as failing at once; a timeout, a rate limit (429) or a server error does so after three deliveries in a row. While it is failing, Pro emails you about it at most once a day.

What no plugin can see is a Zap that has been deleted. Measured on 24 September 2026, a catch-hook address with no Zap behind it still answered 200 with "status": "success". Whether a Zap that's merely switched off answers the same way, we couldn't measure without a Zapier account — so treat that as invisible too. After you change or rebuild a Zap, send an entry and look at the Zap's history in Zapier. For a newsletter or CRM Pro connects to directly — Mailchimp, Brevo, Kit, MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot — a broken key is an error Pro can see. See Formsafe Pro and pricing.
